Adding Objects After Translation

The most efficient way to use the ToolBook Translation System (TTS) is to complete your application entirely, in one language, before creating additional sources and translating them. See the Step by Step instructions. However if you need to add objects later, after translation, here are the recommended procedures.

These procedures assume you've completed your original application, written it to a database and duplicated that database for each additional sources, and completed the translation process on all sources.

Adding New Pages After Translation

To add pages with entirely new content:

• Open your application book.

• Select one language (typically your default language) as the current source and, if necessary, read all of its content.

• Add any new page(s) in the selected language.

• Write all content to the selected source, typically using a Batch Write. This will write all content, including the new pages, to the current source database.

• For each additional source:

1. Select the source as the current source.

2. Read all content for that source. This will populate your book with the translated content for the selected source. The new pages will remain in the original language.

3. Write all content for that source, typically using a batch write. Warning: If you write content to a source without first reading content for that source (step 2), you will OVERWRITE translated content. If you prefer to write only the new pages rather than batch writing, after step 2 you can go to each new page in turn and use the Write Page Objects tool. That tool will automatically write the new pages as well as the selected objects.

4. After completing this process for each source, move on to translation.

• Use the TTS Translator program to translate all new content for each source.

  

Splitting a Page Into Multiple Pages After Translation

 

To split an existing page or pages into new pages without adding new content:

 

• Open your application book.

• Select one language (typically your default language) as the current source and, if necessary, read all of its content.

• Duplicate all necessary page(s). Do not delete any objects at this point.

• Write ALL content again, typically using a Batch Write. This will write all content, including the duplicated pages, to the current source database.

• Then, for each additional source:

1. Select the source as the current source.

2. Read all content for that source. The duplicated pages will remain in the first language, but the original pages will have the translated content.

3. Write all content for that source, typically using a batch write. Warning: If you write content to a source without first reading content for that source (step 2), you will OVERWRITE translated content. If you prefer to write only the new pages rather than batch writing, after step 2 you can go to each new page in turn and use the Write Page Objects tool. That tool will automatically write the new pages as well as the selected objects.

4. After completing this process for each source, move on to translation.

• Use the TTS Translator program to cut and paste translated text from the original pages to un-translated duplicate pages. This could be done in the original application book as part of the previous step if you prefer.

• After all content has been translated, again load each source in turn, delete any unnecessary objects, and re-write the source.

 

Adding Objects After Translation

 

To add objects such as buttons or fields after the translation process is complete:

 

• Open your application book.

• Select one language (typically your default language) as the current source and, if necessary, read either all of its content or only content for the page where you plan to add objects.

• Add any new objects and content in the selected language.

• Write content either with a batch write or for the selected page. Warning: Only use a batch write if you have previously read all content for the current source.

• For each additional source:

1. Select the source as the current source.

2. Read all content for that source. This will populate your book with the translated content for the selected source.

3. Write either all content for that source using a batch write. Warning: If you write content to a source without first reading content for that source (step 2), you will OVERWRITE translated content. If you prefer to write only the changed pages rather than batch writing, after step 2 you can go to each new page in turn and use the Write Page Objects tool.

4. After completing this process for each source, move on to translation.

• Use the TTS Translator program to translate all new content for each source.
